This is a passion project in tribute to my brother who has been a key figure in the Footbag community. Whenever I work on personal projects, I tend to vent as much creative energy out as possible. For this video, I wrote the music as I edited. I wanted to have a natural progression to this video, given what footage I took and how the music built up. I also took the opportunity to expand my visual aesthetic pallet using glitching effects and playing with typography in different ways (the end titles are the unsung heroes). I also wanted to try a technique often used in dance videos, by shifting the camera view to stabilize the head in the frame. Filming-wise, it was fun playing around with different angles. We had a cheap GoPro with no proper mounts, which we taped on his head and feet. Combined with handheld shots and drone shots, it was a satisfying variety of angles to edit with. But the greatest challenge of all was the final slow-motion shot, which involved a lot of editing work. I applied an interpolating effect to increase the slowness of the footage, and then I had to remove a lot of people from the background. This involved creating a clean plate using Photoshop, then painstakingly rotoscoping Erik out, frame-by-frame, to place him overtop of the clean plate. The process was intensive, but the result was flawless.
