This was a video for a collaboration with Victor Cheng and Adobe with Marshmello's "Be Kind" as the theme. I was hired to edit all of Victor's epic drone footage of Hong Kong to convey a message of kindness. It was a bit of a problem-solving exercise, thinking of the approach to weave all the shots together and incorporating the message. In the end, it came down to finding a common composition and camera movement and adding a rotation to tie each shot together. But the most satisfying part of it all was solving how to move from the opening shot to the dolly-back sequence. The drone started with a close-up of Sam and Victor, then pulled back and up. After going through all the footage, I had an aha moment and realized I could fake a backflip with the drone down under a bridge. This was a complex transition to edit. I exaggerated the camera movement by extending the sky, then used a high-up bridge shot for a brief moment to bring the camera underneath. With a bunch of motion blur, masking, and editing wizardry, it has become one of my favourite transitions to date.
